Tired Achy Feet? Pamper Your Paws With This FEEL GOOD Kinetix Partner Technique

This Kinetix Partner technique is easy to learn, and it’s the NICEST (translation: feels sooooo good) technique in the Kinetix toolbox. 

Before trying this technique, please make sure you don’t have a contraindication (which means I would advise you NOT to do this, at least not yet). 

Contraindications for this technique:

  • Acute plantar fasciitis – you’re currently experiencing pain on the bottoms of your feet and looking for relief. If this is you, I recommend starting with my calf fascia release and/or my hamstring fascia release techniques that target the root cause of plantar fasciitis (which is typically NOT your feet). If you try this while experiencing plantar fasciitis type pain, you could make your pain worse. That’s because plantar fasciitis typically means inflammation on the bottoms of your feet (in the plantar fascia or plantar fascia tendon) and that tissue is IRRITATED. Why is it irritated? Because it’s getting pulled on by tissue UPSTREAM – usually in your calves and hamstrings, but it could even be coming from your IT Band/hamstring junction or from a pelvic instability situation. You can certainly go into your foot and release your plantar fascia, but you want to do this AFTER taking care of the most likely root causes, to comfort and soothe the irritated plantar fascia. If you loosen the plantar fascia while upstream tissue is still tight, it could backfire. 
  • If you’ve ever had a cortisone injection (especially multiple injections), this technique may be contraindicated for you. Cortisone injections come with potential side effects like tendon and ligament rupture, necrosis (death) of tissue, necrosis of nearby bone, inflammation and pain. If you do have any of these side effects happening, compressing your fascia like this could cause more damage. For the record, I’ve done this with many people who have had cortisone injections into their feet, but I know what I’m doing and even though this is a fairly easy technique, there is the potential for using too much weight, digging into the tissue too aggressively etc. 
  • If you have ankle injuries, metal in your foot (from past surgeries) or if you’re on serious pain medications that limit your ability to sense pain (danger). 

MOST people love this technique. Hopefully that’s you 😉 

If you do enjoy this and it feels GOOD, then congratulations because your plantar fascia is pretty healthy! Relax and ENJOY. 

If you discover that you hate this because it’s really painful, then…this is really good data. It means your plantar fascia is tight and dehydrated, and I highly recommend using this technique for the bottom of your foot to release the fascia before trying this partner technique. 

Grab a partner and make sure to watch the video for instructions, because you really need to see this to get it right. While it is the easiest Kinetix technique to learn, there are still some important things to keep in mind and I cover all of it in the video. 

You’ll need a high backed chair (or counter, or the back of a couch) and a comfortable mat for the person getting stepped on to lie face down. 

GOOD NEWS:

Unlike most fascia release techniques of mine where I say to stay on one spot for just 30-40 seconds, you can stay on the bottoms of the feet for as long as this feels good to you (or, as long as your partner will keep kneading your feet like a cat pawing you!)

Hopefully you can find a partner for this! If you don’t have a partner, you can try the plantar fascia release (but it’s not exactly the same, and not quite so feel good). I know a lot of people who’ve used their kids for this, who find it kind of fun to step on mom or dad 😉 Surely you have a partner somewhere?
